Oktoberfest Turnier

Von: Keith Luxon

Clearly with so many of our members earning their living from golf they have forgotten some of the reasons that most people start playing golf;

  • The social side of the game
  • The game is supposed to be fun
  • There is a lot of pleasure in getting a birdie

This is exactly what a Texas scramble consists of so it was disappointing that there were only 14 players for the first Okoberfest tournament, two of which who were not even members of the club!

Numbers were that short at one stage the Gianni reserved the table on the left for the evening!

Those who did play had the pleasure enjoying one of the best golfing weather days of the year, sunny, warm but not so hot that even your balls start to sweat.

The two cardinal sins when playing a Texas scramble are getting a bogey and leaving a putt short, unfortunately not everyone remembered these rules as countless examples of both were seen (and heard) across the course – that said there were many shouts of joy as either the birdie putt was sank or more importantly the par saved at the third or fourth attempt – in summary everyone had a great time on the course.

The winning team led by Jürg Aschmann consisting of himself, Keith Luxon, Heidi Vogel and Gigi Klee came close to equalling the course record by shooting 63 gross which converted into a net 49!  On the first tee captain Aschmann reminded his team of the cardinal sins not to be undertaken following which the team then dutifully obeyed (well at least the first, if not the second) with 13 pars, 5 birdies and zero bogeys. The club had generously sponsored the prizes with first prize being a CHF500 voucher at the pro shop each (I bet you wish you had played now !)

Second were the team of Alois Bachmann, Rene Wyss, Bruno Huber and Angelina Aschmann who shot a gross 67, net 52. Second prize was two dozen balls of your choice each.

The closest to the pin of the 7th was Heidi Vogel at 2mts 22cm and on the 18th was Willy Villiger with 6mts (yes if there are only 7 men players you can win closest to the pin with 6 meters!).

Turning to evening the ladies were blossoming out of their dresses and several men wore Lederhosen – I learnt that if the ladies bow is on the right it shows that they are married and if on the left they are not (apparently if in the middle it shows that you are married but ….).

Jürg Aschmann looked the part wearing his new Lederhosen for the first time. Unfortunately, as a joke the salesmen in the shop had told him that it was like wearing a Scottish kilt in that you are not supposed to wear underwear, Jürg was last seen walking very gingerly to his car!

Not to be outdone by the “blossoming ladies” the men had their own “squeeze and lift” competition (yes, the wine was flowing) – the winner is below, he shall remain nameless, well at least for now.

The benefits of not having 150 dinners in the restaurant is that the temperature stays pleasant and you all get served at the same time – to top it all the meal was fantastic.

Bring on next year when hopefully the winning team will stay together and take on all challengers.

Pitchmarken richtig reparieren
